Audacious Claims
The Stotts Ranch makes some claims about its herd and hair that some may treat with suspicion.
However, our claims are not unfounded and in the letter below,
James Stotts helps put some of the doubts to rest.

For anyone who suspects the Stotts Ranch has a "shell game"
on measuring mohair (i.e., sampling a kid and calling it
a grown goat), here's the account of the last sampling
of our twin billies.
On May 20, 2002, Dr. Frank Craddock (Texas Extension
Service Sheep and Goat Specialist), Dr. Chris Lupton (Texas
Agricultrural Experiment Station Research Scientist and
head of the Wool and Mohair Measuring Labratory), and
Mr. Faron Pfeiffer (Research Associate with the Texas
Agricultrural Experiment Station and the Wool and Mohair
Measuring Labratory) were together with me in the Stotts
Ranch goat shed examining some of the herd. I was pointing
out our twin five year old stud billies and Chris asked me
if I was going to measure them this year. I had been
side sampling them at shearing time since they were yearlings.
I told Chris let's do it right now while he had the clippers
out. They took the samples. Hopefully, any Doubting Thomas
can just be Tom now. All of our mohair measuring has been
for our use in breeding selection and as a accurate guage
to see where we are at.
I apoligize for having to use these three men as witnesses,
knowing their reputation.
